Abstract

The basis for developing the design of this watch product is to introduce the various cultures of the Batak, Dayak, and Balinese tribes. The three tribes were chosen because each of these tribes still adheres to their customs in everyday life that have existed since their ancestors. In addition, the characteristics that are owned are familiar among the community, making it easier for the process of searching for design voting to be made to the general public regarding the one that best represents the three tribes. This is motivated by the declining interest of the public to know and preserve the cultural diversity that is owned by Indonesia. The variety of cultures used in this design process are visual elements that are representative of the Batak, Dayak, and Balinese tribes such as colors and ornaments. The selection of watch products to be used as a medium in introducing various Indonesian cultures is because watches are one of the popular fashion items among the younger generation. The use of wood and leather as the main material is considered to build an ethnic impression on the watch. The purpose of this research is to measure how much people know about the characteristics of the Batak, Dayak, and Balinese tribes by using the design thinking process research method with one of the steps testing the public about their knowledge of watch variants that visualizes each of them. each tribe. Besides aiming to know the knowledge of the characteristics of the tribe, it is also to determine what kind of watch design best represents the three tribes. The final result of this research is a prototype made of wood and leather.
